Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

Another point to remember is that the cuviddec.h file states this for the variable to force CUDA over CUVID: "Use a CUDA-based decoder if faster than dedicated engines" I don't know how that decision is made but it could account for cases where there appears to be no difference. admin, have you eve...

Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

Could you also post the steps you are taking to activate the option to decode using CUDA instead of VP?

Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

That could be. But, why are you so sure that CUDA can't decode faster than VP on high end cards? It seems like almost no tests have been done (or if they have, I haven't seen them). With all the power the high end CUDA engines have, it would seem strange to me that they couldn't best the VP engines,...

Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

statica, could you see if you can duplicate your speed results with AVSMeter 1.17 and rat.264? If you are able, could you post the steps you followed? As far as I know you are the first person to get results like that (hopefully not the last). It would be good if flyordie could try to reproduce your...

Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

Anyone have a 680 to run this test on? It would be interesting to see what type of CUDA decoding performance it has.

Re: QuickSync indexer?

Another option would be to get a Core i3 2100 with a really cheap LGA 1155 motherboard.

A full bare bones system with QuickSync can be put together for less than $300.

Re: QuickSync indexer?

Yeah, unfortunately they changed the CPU socket, so there are now QuickSync CPUs for socket 1366. And the performance difference compared to a 980 is going to be null basically....

Wishing Intel would give motherboards and CPU's to QuickSync developers...

QuickSync indexer?

Hey admin, Check out this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1548287#post1548287 Looks like QuickSync decoding performance blows everything out of the water, even VP5. Ever thought about making an indexer for QuickSync? Would something like that be feasible? And Ivy Bridge is just aroun...

Re: VP vs CUDA decoding performance

I got out a GT450 that I have, but don't regularly use because it has stability problems. Should be fine for pure CUDA, hopefully. I have build 2041 running, and on the "list GPU devices" tab it identifies my GT450 as active. When I set the DGIndexNV.ini file to "Decode_Modes=1,1,1", the "List GPU D...

VP vs CUDA decoding performance

Build 2041 of DGDecNV has allowed us to decode video using CUDA, as well as the option we have always had to decode using VP. I am creating this topic to post comparisons of decoding performance, especially comparing VP vs CUDA decoding performance of AVC/VC1 on some of the higher end cards, where C...

Re: GT 520 VP5 performance

OK, great news. Do we have any idea about decoding performance of the high end cards when using CUDA for decoding AVC or VC1? I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile to spend extra to get, say a 560 or 570, or their equivalent in the upcoming 600 (or some say it will be called 700) series. EDIT: I p...

Re: GT 520 VP5 performance

A lot of the replies in this thread compare CUDA vs VP decoding performance for MPEG2 streams, and sometimes CUDA wins.

Can CUDA decode H264/VC1 as well? If so, does CUDA on a high-end card ever beat VP?

[RESOLVED] Is the GT520 really powerful enough for an HTPC?

I have been waiting and waiting for something more powerful than a GT520 to come out that has the VP5 engine (mainly to be able to use it with DGIndexNV). Anyone know if anything is coming soon? I am worried about the deinterlacing performance of the GT520. This is from AnandTech: http://www.anandte...
