These CUDA filters are packaged into DGDecodeNV, which is part of DGDecNV.

Thanks, Sharc. The default used to be 0 and I was going by the DOC.txt that I had.

int d Set the number of past and future frame that the filter uses for
denoising the current frame. d=0 uses 1 frame, while d=1 uses 3
frames and so on. Usually, larger it the better the result of the
denoising. Temporal size = (2 * d + 1).

Default: 0.

gonca, please explicitly set d=0.

I'm always interested in seeing samples where the slower settings are useful.

If you can further optimize the filter -- great
If not -- it is already sufficiently fast while providing excellent results to my old eyes
Sometimes quality and speed have to be balanced with a bit of bias toward ones own needs.
Mine are quality more than speed

Now you have 106 fps for KNLM? I can't reconcile that with my test results on 1050Ti. I don't see how you could be getting 4 times my performance. I'll double check it and test on my Win10 system when my second 1050Ti arrives. Something is not right somewhere.

Can't figure it out
With the issues of getting Opencl running, uninstalling and re-installing video drivers, etc, I dont understand the numbers either
Ny previous post of about 1 fps matches what I saw over on the other forum
X64, while more more efficient, can't generate that kind of improvement
I just don't know
If there are any more tests you want me to carry out let me know

Quick question -- Does KNLM have a fallback feature to SW, I am wondering if it seeing the OpenCl driver, even though GPUCapsViewer sees it, or falling back to SW and using the CPU

If something is not right its probably on my end

I too fell prey to the d=0 --> d=1 default change. I have re-run my tests with explicit d=0 and KNLM is about twice as fast as DGDenoise on my 1050Ti OpenCL 1.2. When running with d=1 then my previous results are seen, but then the apparent speed advantage of DGDenoise is due to running with d=0.

I'm really curious why CUDA is sucking so bad on this simple kernel. Let's try to figure this out.

Convenience, the fact that I prefer to frame serve with DGDecNV -- which would require me to use a pure x64 environment, instead of being able to choose.
Consider that these numbers are a measure of the avisynth script, as soon as something else (like an encoder) is thrown in the speed difference diminishes

Hehe, persistence pays off. Making progress. I found that the kernel was not given enough registers, so that accesses in the inner loop were very slow. I gave it more registers and the speed doubled. I am now within a few fps of KNLmeansCL(d=0), and there are a few more things to try. I'll slipstream 2053 later today with this.

Some critical loop control variables were floats. Changing them to ints gave me another doubling!

Current status on my 1050Ti:

DGDenoise() 112 fps
KNLMeansCL(d=0) 59 fps

Now it's getting fun again. :lol:

CUDA is like assembly language, while OpenCL is like C. It's not as easy to optimize OpenCL code as CUDA code, it seems to me.

Slipstreamed into DGDecNV 2053. You'll need to update both DGDecodeNV.dll and DGDecodeNV.ptx.

Fingers crossed...

I was able to double-rate deinterlace and denoise a 1920x1080 stream at 100 fps!
