I released 3.45. After release is when the serious bugs are found. Murphy's Law. I will pray for myself.

Hi! First of all, a big thanks to Curly for further developing eac3to! I have a request for the next version: please, could you update libav/ffmpeg to allow E-AC3 7.1 decoding? It's a shame that ffmpeg can decode full 7.1 E-AC3 stream but eac3to can't do it.

I believe @digimaster's E-AC3 7.1 decoding bug is already referenced in the "Features and Functionality" list by @Guest 3, "Still decodes all eac3to streams as 5.1 (the core AC3 or EAC3) ignoring the depending frames with the extra channels. Maybe fix with updated libav dll's (ffmpeg can't create 7.1 eac3 but decode it fine)." or is that actually a different issue & perhaps not related?

Guys, here is an initial test version eac3to_3.46_test:

* Added marking of hidden streams.
* Fixed failures with some UTF8 paths.

@HPotter

Can you please verify this with the issue we have been working on? I modified the fix slightly and need to know if it is still okie-dokie.

Working on some more fixes so this is not a release candidate yet.

Thank you. One for one and all for all!

eac3to_3.46 test was updated:

* Added marking of hidden streams. :salute: Curly
* Fixed failures with some UTF8 paths. :salute: HPotter
* Disabled -r8brain as it is broken. If it is specified
a warning is printed and it is not enabled. :salute: jul059
* Fixed regression to subtitles demuxing from bluray/UHD disks. :salute: HPotter

Gonna have to release this quick so consider it a release candidate. Just waiting on Harry's blessing.

This is more like an audio question than an eac3to one, but might spawn a feature request

The movie North to Alaska (1960), has a 4.0-channel audio track. I guess the default configuration is that it would be three front channels and one back channel at the center, but the IMDb tech specs state that it's 4-track stereo. That would point that the configuration should be FL, FR, SL, SR. eac3to treats and encodes it as 3/1.

So if my assumption is correct, would it be possible to add a switch for these cases (or provide a suitable reordering command line in the help)?

Can you provide a sample and a link to the spec you mentioned? What is the relevant eac3to command line you are talking about?

Hopefully, Guest 3 will weigh in as my knowledge of this stuff is minimal and he has lots of experience with channel orders, etc.

Here's a sample: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NKGW2D ... drive_link

This is the IMDb tech page of that movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054127/te ... tt_spec_sm , also the Blu-ray case info says it's DTS-HD MA 4.0.

Yes, approved. Don't know why it didn't change it to a public share once I asked for the share link

eac3to says:

DTS Master Audio, 3/1 channels, 24 bits, 48kHz, dialnorm: 0dB
(core: DTS, 3/1 channels, 1509kbps, 48kHz, dialnorm: 0dB)

Is that inconsistent with MediaInfo? It's stereo with 4 tracks, right? Educate me. ;)

Yep, that's what I also checked first. I'm just not knowledgeable enough to tell if MediaInfo is correct or if it just makes a best guess. There are similar movies like Edward Scissorhands and The Poseidon Adventure which are at least in some physical media releases having some odd audio tracks that you must adjust manually for correct output. Our chief audio engineering professional Guest 3 would definitely know this stuff.

I think both MI and eac3to determine the same stuff. The output is C L R Cb but if it's 4.0, in my opinion it's not correct. I tried reading up on this 4-track stereo stuff and it is some sort of old surround thingie but couldn't find out what the actual setup would be.
