EAC3TO Requests and General Discussion

Post by skull »

As suggested by Curly, we desperately need a thread that people can post random questions, ideas, problems that aren't official bug reports, and otherwise general discussions relating to EAC3TO and related matters. So, here it is. Please post here from now on, unless it's a reproducible bug, in which case please make a separate thread for it.

Please be respectful, humble, and think before you post, if what you are about to say is in some way related directly or indirectly to EAC3TO. For anything else, there are plenty of other places online you can go to be a troll or insult people. Cheers!

Thank you, skull! :salute:

Debates are fine in your thread but trolling of course not.

Gonna be a great thread. Let's talk about what makes eac3to great, and how to make it greater. For me, it is all the on-the-fly conversions and wide source and dest types. DGDemux only eats bluray disks. Can't remove DN, change frame rate, etc. Our friend hubblec4 has talked about accepting arbitrary M2TS lists. eac3to eats that for breakfast. DGDemux goes blech. It's like two siblings, they are both treasured souls, different as they may be.

Wow, that would be an honour. I will select and add an avatar later today. And absolutely agree on the metaphor of siblings DG, I also love how flexible eac3to is, especially when needing to quickly convert audio tracks even when coming from different containers. Happy to find this little community to be a part of. :)

Let's see how long it takes our new mod to delete this post.

DG is an idiot.
Curly is even stupider.
Any questions?

Hi Curly and the DG team

Many thanks for new development and new binarys.

I have a suggestion:
To read one thread with all the bugs and feature requests is a bit cumbersome.

Could we have for each issue and feature request it's own thread like the other DG-tools?

It's more of a tracking tool for us and a way for users to quickly see if their issue is known. You can always make a dedicated thread and ask me or skull to update the tracking post with a link to your thread.

Hmm, this is like a test, is it? I'll let it go because you have a reputation, but do try and be nice from time to time. You'll get further in life that way young lady. ;)

Could anyone tell me how to save the demuxed files to a specific destination please? ATM all files are demuxed to my c: drive and i'd rather them saved to the source location.

There is a pending feature request for that. You'll have to be patient. Also, skull gave a workaround. Maybe he'll pop in and point you to it.

Also, thinking about it, files will be saved to the current directory. So if you CD to your source directory and run eac3to_mod from there that should work, too.

is there actually a kind of changelog of all the changes made per version since overtaking the job from madshi?

That is a good idea of course, but probably a lower priority while working on test/beta versions for now. Given the detailed Feature/Fix Requests list, I imagine Curly could do something similar for Release Notes/changelog, as he fixes/changes/adds for a major release, but he can confirm/deny.

Thank you, skull, you are quite correct.

Not yet, beyond following the threads. When I get this subs issue solved, I'll make a formal release with a change log. Here is a sort of summary:

* All bugs affecting HEVC/UHD and seamless branching have been fixed except for subs timing.
* Problems with EAC3 streams were fixed.
* An INI file was added.
* thd+ac3 output no longer does re-encoding.

Awesome, keep up the great work. Hope you take some well-deserved breaks for mental health with each major version! I wonder if it's possible to reach out to someone who manages videohelp site, to get it added to the eac3to page somehow? Let me know if you want me to reach out to them at some point. Just thinking ahead. :)

Good idea, let's wait until we get the first solid release with subs fixed. You can surely be our representative. Thank you for your kind offer.

We are so close to an awesome eac3to_mod release! :ugeek:

Forgot. We did not "take over" from madshi. We are joined at the hip and DG staff are happily contributing time and expertise. madshi remains the father and creator of the amazing eac3to, and the spiritual guru that we all luv and respect. We follow his advice and guidance, which, thank the divine, he gives on a daily/hourly basis.

did i think that
