Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
Hi,
I would like to know if DGDecNV provides a better decoding quality than FFmpegSource2 or other Avisynth filter ? Just to decode without using any other function.
I don't have a Nvidia card to try but I'm a DGDecIM user and it was a great tool.
Thank you !

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
All decoders that operate correctly produce the same output. Where you might gain is in performance, robust random access, fast deinterlacing and resizing, and the included CUDA filters. DGIndexNV is also useful in its own right for stream analysis and demuxing of audio and subtitles.
Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
Thank you, so I don't need to buy a Nvidia card in order to just decode without treatment.
If I want to try it, is there a trial version of DGDecNV ?
Thank you.

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
No, it's impossible w/o card as it relies on HW decoder by NVidia.
There is no trial for DGNV, I believe $15 is not that much for you.

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
$15 is not much but he also needs to buy an nVidia card.
Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
Indeed. And probably 1660 or better, if he needs max performance. 1650 looks castrated a bit, but probably fine for decoding.

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
You're right but I said I don't need a nVidia card because I'll probably not use DGDecNV... If decoding without treatment is equal to FFmpegSource2 or other filter, it's useless for me.
And no $15 is not that much
Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
Nico apparently does not care about performance.
Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
A last question : if I want to downscale 4K to 1080p and keep HDR with DGDecNV, is a GTX 1050 sufficient to do that ?
Thank you an thank you for your advice.

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
I didn't tried, but probably you can decode and resize with any suitable decoder and set mastering data during encoding process. It should remains the same (at least there is no difference on non-resized tonemapped UHD frame, then resized to 1080p and bicubic-resized UHD to 1080p and then tonemapped).

Re: Better decoding with DGDecNV ?
DJATOM is correct. You can decode and resize on the GPU leaving more CPU for encoding. DGDecNV will extract the mastering data that you can re-add during encoding. You can also encode on the GPU. A 1050 or 1050 Ti will do just fine.
