RTX 3060

Post by Phoenix.012012 »

Hello to all of you guys

It's been a while since I send a message about what you "don't like" ... laptop ;-)

I eventually got a new laptop, coming in 5 days...
LENOVO LEGION 5 15ACH6H
Ryzen 7 5600H
RTX 3060 6GB
I will make a try with DGDecNV on it as it is said that OPTIMUS is implemented.

My question is more about the RTX 30 series, in gpus.txt, I can't see any RTX 30 and their GA104/GA106
Is there any reason ?
Should I add it myself ?
If I have to make a try by myself, it's fine, can you just tell me how to add the GPU in the list ?

Last, after I will try CUVID_TEST you sent me last year on it (and hopefully make it work), how should I update the registration of the licence for this new computer ?

Thanks for your help and THE AWESOME work you make here

Regards

I'll update the gpus.txt file soon.

When you get the laptop, open DGIndexNV and run Video/List GPU Devices and tell me the PCI device id that it reports. Then I can tell you what line to add to your gpus.txt file, if you can't wait for my update.

You just make a new license using your existing user id and the machine ID from the laptop at the online license generator.

Hello Rocky
Thanks for the answer.
I'll test with CUVID_TEST by the end of the week
I'm supposed to receive my laptop on Thursday
I'll update you.
I'might be back here for some help about licence and/or gpus.txt
Hope this laptop will work
Fingers crossed!
Thanks again

Hi Everyone

I got my laptop few hours ago, got it straight updated with win stuff and nvidia drivers
I tested with cuvid_test, great news, both .265 and .265 works, got an error on one of my file but your samples work.

So here it is,
>0: "GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Video driver version 461.56
Compute 8.6 (using sm_80)
Memory 6144 MB
L2 cache 3145728 bytes
Symmetric multiprocessors 30
CUDA cores 0
Processor clock 1425 MHz
Memory bus width 192 bits
PCI device ID 10DE:2560
GPU core unknow

Weird part is CUDA core 0, and GPU core unknow guess it's because of gpus.txt

BTW, my GPU is not listed in the official NVIDIA MATRIX:
https://developer.nvidia.com/video-enco ... ew#Encoder

Will use staxrip to test the perf...

Anything Iyou want me to test ?

Great to hear. Yes, the gpus.txt needs to be updated but that is just cosmetic. I will update it soon.

Nothing specific to test, but advise if issues arise.

Hi Everyone
Sorry to bother you, I don't even know if I should post this message as a reply to previous ones or create a new topic?
I spent the last 3 hours to scan my drives looking for my userID.
I can't find it in my messages here, nor in my gmail account I used to register.... I simply can't find it.
Sorry but is it possible to send it back to me in PM here or by email ?
I need to register my new computer.
Thanks a lot and again sorry to bother

I'm sure it will. Never trust a premature conception; test it thoroughly against what is. That's old squirrel wisdom. Off to ride the winds right now until tomorrow then I'll try to find your ID for you. Whee!

WHEEEE :hat:

Thanks it works GREAT

I can confirm that LENOVO LEGION 15ACH6H works without issue (so far)
Didn't modified the bios config of the laptop.
It was already with RADEON GRAPHICS DEACTIVATED
WINDOWS CAN ONLY SEE RTX 3060

Next step, upgrade my SSD size, (this laptop can get 2 SSD NVMe 2280...)

Again thanks

You're the BOSS, BOSS :salute:

Just out of curiosity where did you buy that and what did you pay for it? I may get one too. Also, what is the processor?

I have a 3090 coming my way as part of a pre-built. It has an 11700K processor and a Gigabyte Z590 AORUS ULTRA motherboard. That gives me 24GB GDDR6X on the GPU (great for CUDASynth) with a PCIe 4.0 interface. Getting ready to rumble!

There are two backup machines (not including the laptop), so this allows to retire the i7-980X machine. Unsuccessfully tried to give it away about a year ago. The case has a 3.5 floppy slot! Nevertheless, it's done yeoman's work over the years and we'll light agarbhattis as it is decommissioned.

Ooh, apparently there is some doubt about PCIe 4.0 in the Z590 chipset, i.e., does it really pass 4.0 to the GPU or only to the SSDs? Worst case, down the road I can build a proper Ryzen 5950X-based system with true PCIe 4.0 and move the 3090 to it. Let's see. Peanuts are no obstacle. Gotta find a way to eat them all before squirrel heaven!

Hehe, while updating gpus.txt discovered the 'List GPUs' function has been broken for a long time in showing the GPU core type (that's the only reason for gpus.txt). Will fix that and update gpus.txt for the next slipstream. Probably wait and test it against the incoming 3090.

Subconsciously wanting to get rid of gpus.txt.

Yeah, gonca, that's what clued me in. Would be nice to see some confirmation from other sources but benchmarks will tell the tale.

This will be our first PC with pretty multi-colored lights. How did we ever live without them? Ocular migraines go only so far.

Checked Gigabyte and Newegg sites for specs
I believe this is the breakdown

CPU>GPU (gen 4) 16 lanes
CPU>1 M.2 (gen 4) 4 lanes
CHIPSET>1 or 2 M.2 (gen 3)

Go for it, Bullwinkle. Maintaining gpus.txt is like cleaning the toilet every Sunday,

Unreal. Today the optical drive on the 980X machine failed. I tried to wiggle the connectors and when I grabbed the optical drive's SATA power connector the biotch burned my finger. Immediately powered off and the disk drive SATA power connector and cable are fried/melted, and I am icing my finger. It is as if the machine was fighting back for survival or revenge. You can't make this ??? up. Clocks stop when loved ones die. It can't be explained. Forgive us, beloved 980X, we will never forget you.
