DGIndexNV 244 Chapter Demuxing Possible Issue

Post by kramel »

Hello,
It seems that the latest version of DGIndexNV (244) demuxes chapters from MKV slightly differently than the previous versions. I'm assuming this is related to the fact that chapter demuxing is now built-in, instead of an external tool.

Anyhow, 244 generates a txt file that starts at "CHAPTER00" (i.e. - zero-based indexing) while most other tools (that I've seen anyhow) that work with MKV and simple chapters start at "CHAPTER01".

Starting with "CHAPTER00" causes some other tools I use to claim that the chapters file is 'invalid'. I'm not sure if starting at zero is truly "invalid" or not, since I couldn't find a firm source for a specification on the file format. It's such a simple format, I'm guessing no such source exists.

I'm not sure if this is really a "bug" or not; just wanted to bring it up in case it is.

DGIndexNV 244 Chapter Demuxing Possible Issue

Post by renols »

Hi.

I just demuxed a disc, where I chose to discard first and last m2ts.

The chapters file after look like this:

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=

When I open the disc, dgindexnv tells me that there are 9 chapters. Even after selecting skip first and last m2ts, it still shows Chapters [9].

But after demux the chapters file looks like the one I just pasted.

If I open the disc in dgdemux, and just demux the chapters I get a chapters file like this:

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:32.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:11.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:05.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:02:50.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:47.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:41.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:02.750
CHAPTER08NAME=
CHAPTER09=01:47:45.708
CHAPTER09NAME=

I think I am using the most recent 244, dated 27/7. But its a bit hard to tell with all the slipstreams :-)

Something seems to have happened in 244 with regards to chapters.

Just tested the same disc with 243, and the chapter file is OK again. So its defenately something with 244.

Hello again.

Maybe it is actually a problem with dgdemux 1.62.

When I used dgdemux 1.62 I get the same small chapter file.

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=

Going back to dgdemux 1.61 I again get the good chapters file:

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:32.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:11.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:05.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:02:50.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:47.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:41.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:02.750
CHAPTER08NAME=
CHAPTER09=01:47:45.708
CHAPTER09NAME=

Hope it helps.

I'll look into it. Thank you for reporting.

Please re-download both for proper testing!

Just finished a lot of intense wasted time on CUDA-enabled Cube, so gonna rest a bit first, until tomorrow.

Hi.

Just redownloaded dgdemux 1.62 and dgdecnv 2.44.

When I select to skip frist and last m2ts they both create a chapters file that looks like this:

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=

If I don't skip first m2ts and last m2ts I get a good chapters file like this:

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:43.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:22.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:16.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:03:01.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:58.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:52.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:13.750
CHAPTER08NAME=
CHAPTER09=01:47:56.708
CHAPTER09NAME=

But, I need to skip first m2ts, since it has no audio in it, and totally messes up the demuxing.

dgdemux 1.61 and dgdecnv 2.43 both create a good chapters file.

Wether it is dgdemux 1.62, dgdecnv 2.44 or both that has an issue I don't know.

But something has gone wrong when selecting to skip the first m2ts.

Can you link me to a disk to purchase that does this? Preferably something from amazon that I can get fast. I haven't been able to duplicate this with disks on hand.

DGIndexNV 244 Chapter Demuxing Possible Issue

Post by renols »

Hi.

I have now redownloaded and tested.

Both dgdemux 1.62 and dgdecnv 2.44 now creates correct chapter files.

There is a slight difference when compared to 2.43, but I don't know the standard, so don't know if the final chapter at the end with 2.43 should be there or not

2.43

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:32.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:11.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:05.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:02:50.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:47.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:41.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:02.750
CHAPTER08NAME=
CHAPTER09=01:47:45.708
CHAPTER09NAME=

2.44 and 1.62

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:32.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:11.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:05.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:02:50.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:47.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:41.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:02.750
CHAPTER08NAME=

Both correctly subtracts the length of the first m2ts file, which is 11 seconds long.

Just as a comparisson I have made a chapter file with eac3to

CHAPTER01=00:00:00.000
CHAPTER01NAME=
CHAPTER02=00:09:43.125
CHAPTER02NAME=
CHAPTER03=00:25:22.792
CHAPTER03NAME=
CHAPTER04=00:43:16.500
CHAPTER04NAME=
CHAPTER05=01:03:01.958
CHAPTER05NAME=
CHAPTER06=01:15:58.375
CHAPTER06NAME=
CHAPTER07=01:31:52.167
CHAPTER07NAME=
CHAPTER08=01:39:13.750
CHAPTER08NAME=

It includes the first m2ts file, so there is a 11 second difference.

Bdinfo shows

CHAPTERS:

Number Time In
------ -------
1 0:00:00.000
2 0:09:43.125
3 0:25:22.791
4 0:43:16.500
5 1:03:01.958
6 1:15:58.375
7 1:31:52.166
8 1:39:13.750

It also includes the time of the first m2ts file.

Looks like 2.43 added a chapter at the end of the movie, but guess that doesn't hurt.

2.44 and 1.62 seems to behave like eac3to and bdinfo.

Thanks for a swift resolvement as usual.

If it does what those other apps do, I am happy. Not much point in going to see why 61/243 made the chapter at the end. In fact, what even is the point of a chapter at the end?

Hi.

I agree that it is probably safe to just do like 1.62 and 2.44 does now.

And they also adjust for the length of the first m2ts file. Guess we are good to go :-)

DGIndexNV 244 Chapter Demuxing Possible Issue

Post by Rocky »

I took another look. I opened Baywatch and the choose dialog showed 17 chapters, with one at the very end. When I opened it the timeline showed only 16 marks. That was because the last one was drawn outside the end. I added code to move it back into the displayable area, and now the timeline shows all 17. Also, the generated chapters file shows all 17. So if there is actually a mark at the end on the disk, then DGIndexNV will display and generate it in the chapters file.

Not sure what happened with your example. Maybe there was no chapter at the end on the disk and 243 erroneously generated one. It appears that some disks have a mark at the end and some do not.

So I think we are good to go in 244 and 62.

BTW, I slipped in the display-at-the-end fix so if you want that re-download and update DGIndexNV. Not needed for DGDemux as there is no timeline to display.
