NVIDIA 551.xx Driver Breaks DGDecNV

Looks like something's changed in 551 driver that's affecting opening files in DGIndex. Reverting back to 546.xx works again. This happened both on my server with a GeForce GTX 1060 and laptop with an RTX 3050 Ti. Image attached of error. Clicking OK exists app as stated.

I found 2 clips that do open when 551 driver is installed. Here's the media info for the 2 files. Both are 4x3 content (1440x1080 & 640x480) and one is AVC rather than HEVC.

Your sample plays fine for me with 551.23 on my 4090. What is your nVidia card and how much memory does it have?

Please try power cycling your PC, not just restarting it.

Also, try DDU and clean install to re-install the driver.

Finally, use GPU-Z Sensors tab to look at the Memory Used field. We want to know if there is enough memory remaining to create the decoder.

I had a chance to do most of the recommendations on the laptop with no luck. :( I did NOT use DDU yet.

I did completely remove all NVIDIA components, downloaded the new 551.61 and did a fresh install. I'll try DDU as I have time this weekend. The laptop is using the RTX 3050 Ti. I did grab GPU-Z and have attached images including what is shown from DGIndexNV. My laptop has 16G RAM. I'll try to get to the server this weekend as well as time permits. Thanks.

That's very strange. I'll probably have to make a debug load for you. Tomorrow.

Hmm, lot's of complaints online about 551 and nvdec, etc. Better stick to your working driver until things clarify.

I should have time to give it a spin tomorrow and report back. My server uses the studio driver so will see what version it's on and my laptop uses the game ready version.

I only see 551.61 available right now and that version is still broken. You must have access to early beta release? ;)

Version: 551.61 WHQL
Release Date: 2024.2.22
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11
Language: English (US)
File Size: 634.43 MB

Once I see .68 available, I'll give it a try.

Tried .68 on both server and laptop and no joy. :( BTW, all I do to test it is just try to load the MKV into the DGIndexNV UI (251 dated 2024-02-22 07:03 in DL folder).

Am wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue.

Can you try demuxing the ES from the MKV (use something other than DGIndexNV like eac3to or mkvtoolnix, etc.)? Then see if DGIndexNV has an issue with loading the ES. Thank you.

I'll install our old 3090 in one of our PCs and see how that goes. As I mentioned it is playing fine on my 4090 with 551.23.

You test on laptop and server. You have the 3050 Ti in the laptop. What is in the server?

Server has a GeForce GTX 1060.

I demuxed with eac3to and the resulting .h265 file failed with the same error. I also demuxed with tsmuxer which produced a .hevc file which also failed with the same error.

Yeah, I'm sure the newer cards are much more powerful with more on board memory too. I assume the 4090 is an RTX 4090? I'm in the process of having a new server built with an RTX 4070 but it'll be awhile before I get it to test.

Thank you for trying. This is very strange. Tomorrow I will make a special debug load for you with some printf's to try to figure out what is going on.

What version of Avisynth are you using?

Does this happen with all files or just this one?

Much appreciated, whatever I can do to help.

Not sure what version of AVISynth (I had installed avisynth+) but it's actually not in play, i.e., am feeding nvenc the mkv directly. I use dgdecnv to create the dgi file so I can parse it and grab the UHD info plus a few other pieces of info like fps, order, etc. The error occurs when I manually load the mkv or es file directly into dgdecnv ui or if I do my normal cli which is when it brings up the error.

Per the info above re the different file types, it happens with certain files. Not sure why some files cause this error as I haven't been able to find a common property. At first I thought it was UHD HEVC files but that turned out to not be the case after a few tests with different files. You have the "bad" file that I attached, do you want a short clip from one that is "good" as well?

Finally have time to get back to this. Thanks for helping on this issue. I did grab 252 BTW and issue still exists.

Okay, here are the results from the command line. I also took one of my UHD test clips and ran both the MKV and the ES file (ahsoka) included in the results.

Code: Select all

C:\Tools\DG Tools\debug>cuvid.exe alba.264
Processed 580 frames in 970ms (597.94fps)

C:\Tools\DG Tools\debug>cuvid.exe -hevc surfing.265
Processed 9253 frames in 4666ms (1983.07fps)

C:\Tools\DG Tools\debug>cuvid.exe -hevc ahsoka.h265
Processed 1440 frames in 6144ms (234.38fps)

C:\Tools\DG Tools\debug>cuvid.exe -hevc ahsoka.mkv
Processed 0 frames in 109ms ( 0.00fps)
I was able to load your files into the DGIndexNV UI but my clip failed with the same error using both the MKV and ES. MKV was demuxed with eac3to 3.51.

Let me know what else I can do to help test and hopefully resolve. Thanks a lot.

p.s. love Into the Blue and own the BD. :D

That EXE only does ES so MKV will fail.

To be clear, clips that fail in DGIndexNV are OK with this EXE?

If so, then it is working to create the decoder, so I just need to see what create params are different between that EXE and DGIndexNV. Please stay around as I will be posting further test EXEs.

I don't see anything in the create params. But I just noticed you have error 2 on the failure, which is not enough memory. Can you please open GPU-Z Sensors tab and monitor Memory Used? What is its value when this failure occurs? What is the amount of memory on the card?

Meanwhile, I am firing up my 1080 Ti machine to test this.
