[RESOLVED] Creating .dgi on GTX 650 Ti is slower than with GT 220 / GT 440

Hello!

I just replaced my Gigabyte GT 220 (I had an ASUS GT 440 too, creating dgi was fast) with a Gigabyte GTX 650 Ti. I realized that creating the dgi file is much slower wit the GTX 650 Ti, which is very odd to me, because pass1 encoding with x264 is much faster ~100 fps, while it was only around 50 with GT 220 / GT 440.

Why the dgi creating is so slow, any ideas or has anybody met similar issue like me?

I am using the latest 331.xx WHQL driver with every card.

I doubt your results, because the GPU is not even used during save project.

I [used to?] confuse myself about this each time, so Donald can I test my understanding with you. From your web page:
DGDecNV is a decoder/frameserver for AVC, MPEG2, and VC1 streams that runs on the GPU of Nvidia graphics cards that support CUDA video decoding.
So the creation of the index file .dgi, involving (only) the DGIndexNV.exe executable, does not use (or need) the GPU at all. It is instead the DGDecodeNV.dll that requires and employs our Nvidia cards. Am I right?

As an aside, I've found I can use the 64-bit version of your DGIndexNV.exe to make .dgi files, and then the 32-bit version of the DGDecodeNV.dll with 32-bit Avisynth in the decoding process (which for me means "decoding for x264 re-encoding"). Please let me know if I'm off-base in some way, and thanks for reading.

Yes, laserfan, you are right on both counts. 1) DGIndexNV does not use the GPU when creating a project; it only needs to parse the stream using CPU code and write the index file. However, the GPU *is* used for decoding and displaying the frames when doing play/preview or navigating on the timeline. 2) The DGI file format is the same for 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Also, things like processing priorities if he is running multiple things at once should be considered. Maybe also caching may come into play.

Interesting..., just because nothing has been replaced in my config, except the graphics card..., so I still have no idea why creating .dgi file takes 2x time as it took with GT220/GT440.

What? That I saw with GT220/440 creating .dgi took 3-4 mins and now with GTX 650 Ti tooks 7-8?

Indeed your report is anecdotal as it stands. You haven't considered or rejected the possible explanations we have offered. So you really have no sound basis for your conclusion.
