[RESOLVED] Backward compatible dgi file

Post by MeteorRain »

DGSource: DGIndexNV/DGDecodeNV mismatch. You are picking up
a version of DGDecodeNV, possibly from your plugins directory,
that does not match the version of DGIndexNV used to make the index
file. Search your hard disk for all copies of DGDecodeNV.dll
and delete or rename all of them except for the one that
has the same version number as the DGIndexNV.exe that was used
to make the index file.
That came from the transition from 2050 to 2051.

And that's not good, all my old dgi files are useless and I have to modify each file to upgrade them.

So I'm thinking, why not making it backward compatible from the DLL side? I mean, the only difference is 2 more numbers in DECODE_MODES and the dgi version increased. How about having an input file adapter and automatically "upgrade" the dgi file before passing it to the parser? This saves tons of time to recreate the file or to manually change the file content.

That's certainly a very reasonable thing to ask for.

So, for you, MeteorRain, since you've been so helpful to us all, I will do it and make it a policy going forward. I will also slipstream it to 2051 within a day or two.

Thank you for your brilliant suggestion and keep them coming.

That would make an awesome slipstream.

I've just been deleting older ones for sample clips.

nice request, MR. :bravo:

OK, guys, please re-download 2051 and see if DGDecodeNV will open your old DGI files. It should work as far back as 2044.

Thank you for the test results, MeteorRain, and great choice of thumbs-up graphic. Which anime is that, BTW? I'm a big fan of Cowboy Bebop, Lain Serial Experiments, and of course all the Studio Ghibli stuff. Feel free to go OT, no rules here.

For extra credit, explain how you chose your user handle; I'm curious about it.

I'll check it out. See my edit; I asked you something else. You can remain mysterious, though, if you prefer. 8-)

My username? Well about 15 years ago when I first heard the song I noticed that the Chinese name of it is pretty similar to my real name (same consonants and similar vowels). So that became my nickname thereafter.

Wow. That's an awesome chronology. Isn't it interesting how an important piece of music during our development can have such a profound influence on our later lives? That's why we should refuse to succumb to a universally cynical and skeptical view of our world's heroes. There really are Gods and Goddesses.

It IS during our development as I was learning programming and was writing softwares while looping this music lol
