Ah, I wondered if that would bite anyone. Silly me, I forgot that WinXP is no longer updated (no Ex functions in the DLL).

Give me a little while to revert that. Thanks for reporting it.

Reverted.

I thought the Ex version may avoid some problems with laptop support but it didn't do squat for me.

If it's OK for you now please advise so I can set this resolved.

I have been very happy with my main Win8.1 system (Classic Start menu and TinyWindowBorders make it pretty much indistinguishable from Win7). Win10 is fine, too, once you turn off all the spyware/telemetry. Forced updates haven't caused me any issues thus far.

Apparently Windows update purposely makes Win7 updating very slow and irritating. :(

OK, I'll bite. What do you find annoying about Win8.1?

There is speculation that MS stopped releasing service packs for Windows 7 so that applying updates one by one would be so annoying that people would give up and switch to Windows 8 to avoid the headache. I doubt the conspiracy theory is far off the mark.

I'd agree that it's interesting, but I certainly wouldn't risk my machine by trying it. :wow: I prefer to just leave Windows Update disabled, so the time it takes to apply updates remains irrelevant.
