[RESOLVED] Failed to create video decoder (1)

I'm having this weird issue where DGIndexNV is able to load a M2TS and index it, but when the project is opened through VirtualDub or FFMPEG it crashes with "Failed to create video decoder (1)" [I'm using this one-liner script to load the project: DGSource("cut.dgi")]

Here is a cut sample from the m2ts https://mab.to/be8o748vD

Duplicated with your stream. Investigating... Thank you for the report.

If that can help I have a second movie that exhibits the issue but only for the first few frames, like some bad packets in the stream or something. I could upload a sample as well.

All you have to do is set Strict AVC in the Settings and then make the project. This stream starts with an I frame that has orphaned reference frames. That's unusual but not illegal.

Hmm that is unfortunately not working.

It may work for the sample I uploaded but when indexing the whole movie, it does not. Precisely, some parts of the movie can now be encoded, but not all of it... I've uploaded another sample, this time from the beginning of the stream, that highlights the issue https://mab.to/5YQd1bT27

Hey, I don't know about encoding. Tell me what your problem with DG tools is. Looking at your sample.

Sorry, I meant that the issue is the same. Same error message too.

That reference is lost on me :|

Means Rocky is intrigued by your problem and is thinking about it. Poetic reference is Hendrix Little Wing:

Rocky is flying with the butterflies and zebras.

It's an SPS/PPS thing. I already told Rocky. He won't sleep all night now, thanks!

Moose can shadowbox too:

No, Bullwinkle. It's improper handling of RPS+IDR/I. I have it fixed but have to regression test. Should be able to release fix tomorrow.

Zooooooom! Whee! Bye for now!

Little Wing heh? I'm a great fan of SRV's cover, but I guess I never really listened to the lyrics of the song (doesn't help that english isn't my main language) :D

For sure, Stevie Ray's version is sublime.

Fixed in slipstream 196.

Hmm I'm sad to report that... it's not entirely fixed. Now I can see a few frames in VirtualDub but most are broken and I sometimes get error 1, and other times error 100. I've saved the project as Strict AVC, but also tried without... At that point I feel like I should simply upload the whole m2ts. What do you think?

Yes, please upload the entire M2TS to my FTP. You have the access details? Where did this M2TS come from?

Do you see broken frames when just playing from the start or only after seeking?

Xunkar, where did you go? I hope you won't keep me in suspense too long.

I wasn't home. I do not have ftps access no, I'll upload it as soon as you send me the details, shouldn't take long. The M2TS is from the "You Only Live Twice" BluRay, as ripped by AnyDVD. I first suspected that it was AnyDVD's fault but the M2TS itself is playable and the BluRay comes from a box set for the complete James Bond collection, and the first 4 BluRays had no such issues.

The video is broken even from the beginning. The top half of the picture is grey while the bottom half is black. Afterwards it's a complete artifact mess. If I seek, the video seems to play correctly but it's hard to say because VirtualDub simply crashes, I have to encode small samples using ffmpeg to find that out.

Got your file. Everything works just perfectly for me. Make sure you have DGDecodeNV.dll version 2053.0.0.196.

Well that's odd, I can confirm I have 2053.0.0.196. Did you save the project using Strict AVC?

Okay I must be really tired. I updated my DGDecNV installation but forgot to replace the DLL in AviSynth+ plugins folder, duh. It is indeed working, I was worried for a second.

No problem, Xunkar, as they say, all's well that ends well. You reported a big problem and helped me to fix it. So... :salute:
