Re: GPU Brands
The first thing to do is check out the reviews at newegg and amazon.
Re: GPU Brands
general opinion is that they are loud under load
Re: GPU Brands
I have found MSI to be stellar, and how could you go wrong with nVidia?
Re: GPU Brands
Follow up, ordered this one
ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 TI 1518/1632 MHz
My bank manager is going to be pissed.

Re: GPU Brands
That only has three fans. The other card you posted about is better.
That looks like a fine choice. We can have an overclocking contest. My voltage is locked but the rest is tweakable. I am running power and temp limits at max, core clock = base + 150Mhz, and memory clock = base + 500MHz. It's very stable so maybe there is more headroom. I'm pretty conservative about these things.
I've been playing with the CUDA optical flow sample. It is 10 times faster than the CPU implementation.
I'm starting at ground zero with mo-comped deinterlacing. We can learn it together. QTGMC has a giant head start. I'm reading papers and old threads.

Re: GPU Brands
Its going to be a couple of weeks before I get it, back order.
You know that feeling.
Supposedly its very quiet, the 1070 version, which I have now, certainly is
Then I will be able to do some more testing on CUDA Filters.
In the meantime if there is any testing you need done with the 1070 let me know

Will do, thanks!
Re: GPU Brands
Notice how this review calls it a beast.

There is no doubt that the new STRIX is VERY fast, depending on how GPU bound you are you will be looking at a product that is a good 5% faster compared to the reference Founders Edition card. Very nice to see is the new cooling solution. ASUS stepped away from their DirectCU cooling design and sure the new one seems to behave well. The GP102 GPU is a beast in terms of heat any cooler needs to draw away. Looking at the results the ~67 Degrees C is the baseline, and that is good. The looks and design as well are pretty terrific, albeit I am not a fan of big LED activated logos, and ASUS is doing that on the back-plate with the ROG logo. Now I stated this in my other reviews already, unless any of the AIB GTX 1080 Ti cards will be bursting into flames or something, we will be recommending them. Like the price or not, the GeForce 1080 Ti series delivers an insane amount of RAW game performance. The MSRP of 699 USD is for the the Founders Edition. ASUS however is offering a premium product, and as such it will be priced like that as we spotted this SKU at € 829,- with a similar price USD wise. That is an incredible amount of money to play games, but yeah once you have one of these puppies in your PC, you'll forget about that pain you had to cough up instantly - as this product series simply delivers. In the Founders Edition review I stated that the cooler is not enough for the beast inside. It throttles (albeit within advertised specifications) and is a bit on the noisy side. So the board partner SKUs are all clocked faster compared to the reference (founders edition) products. Overall you are looking at another 5% to 7% on average extra in performance and another 5% by tweaking it yourself. And that means the product as tested today passes Titan X performance levels. So in retrospect the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti simply is a beast and probably the ultimate card series to get for an enthusiast class gaming PC.

Re: GPU Brands
Sorry to revive an old post
Couldn't get the ASUS card, still on back order everywhere in Canada, so I got this one
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Gaming 1556/1670 MHz 11GB GDDR5X Icx
Reviews look decent
Should get it next week sometime, I hope

Re: GPU Brands
Looks fine. Did you pay MSRP? There's a lot of scalping going on.
Re: GPU Brands
I checked all the Canadian sites I deal with.
Prices were all consistent across all of them (+- a couple of dollars)
I finally had to give up on the ASUS card because it is still on back order in Canada and nobody knows when it will be available.
Wonder if ASUS is trying to drive up demand for their cards so they can charge premium

Did you try that site I linked that alerts you when buying windows open?
Re: GPU Brands
No, but that site is for the States, is it not?

Don't remember. You can't buy from US vendors? What, is there some massive tariff, or you are trying to Make Canada Great Again?
Re: GPU Brands
Actually, yes. Between the sales taxes and import duties it can really add upis there some massive tariff
There aren't enough video cards out there for thatyou are trying to Make Canada Great Again?
Re: GPU Brands
Have it shipped to a US friend and then stop by on your annual DisneyLand trip. We have Legoland here in Schaumburg if it appeals to you.
Just kidding.
Just kidding.

I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time
